Ribbons for thermal transfer printing

Ribbons are consumables for thermal printers. Required for printing on semi-gloss paper labels and synthetic materials. It is consumed in the same way as feeding a roll of labels. Printing is carried out using the thermal transfer method – under the heating of the thermal head, the ink from the tape is transferred to the labels. It differs in the composition of the ink layer (Wax-based, Wax/Resin-based, Resin-based), the width of the tape, the length of the winding and the facing of the ink layer (OUT, IN). It is important to choose the right type of ink layer for the best print quality.

Wax-based Ribbons – The coloring layer is made of a wax-based material. Mostly suitable for printing on paper media. It has a low printing temperature, which ensures a long service life of the thermal head. The resistance to abrasion is low. The ribbon is applied to the press on paper labels and cardboard labels without lamination. The image produced with this type of ribbon is not solvent resistant. Cannot be used for printing on varnished paper labels.
Wax/resin-based Ribbons – The coloring layer is made of a wax/resin composite. It is possible to print both on paper media and on synthetic materials with good adhesive properties. The printing temperature is moderate. The resistance to abrasion is good and provides a high resolution. The resulting image is resistant to abrasion, but does not withstand solvents. A wide range of colors greatly expands the design possibilities.
Resin-based Ribbons – The coloring layer is resin-based material. Designed for printing on all types of synthetic media and textile ribbons. Differs in high resistance to mechanical influences, to influence of solvents, oils, alcohol. In combination with high-temperature plastic, it can withstand temperatures up to 250 degrees Celsius. Resin-based ink ribbon is used for printing on synthetic materials (polyethylene labels, polypropylene labels, nylon-based textile ribbons, etc.).
